Tomo cuts her hair short again after having kept it long for a good while, which makes Chiyo think that Tomo looks just like she did back in their first year of high school.
Tomo refers again to her idol worship of the character Fujiko Mine (the reason she grew her hair out was that she wanted to look more like her).
Kaorin finds herself in Kimura's class for her third year. It has been hinted before that Kimura likes Kaorin, such as when he danced with her during the first sports festival.
Tomo suggests that Kagura walk around in her swim suit so as to promote the swim team. Kimura says this is an excellent idea, and as we know, he loves high school girls in swimsuits.
Previously, Chiyo spent time with her elementary school friends, Miruchi and Yuka. Here, Tomo and Yomi get to meet them too.
Yomi tells Miruchi that some people of her school "just loaf around and get poor grades" like Tomo, Kagura, or Osaka.
When Chiyo notices Tomo has cut her hair short, she goes to talk with Yomi in privacy. This is because Japanese girls often cut their hair after a heartbreak, and Chiyo wonders if this could be why Tomo did it, but Yomi only seems to find the idea of Tomo being heartbroken unlikely and amusing.
Tomo compares herself to Fujiko Mine again, but as she realizes that becoming like her is a goal too difficult to accomplish, she decides to cut her hair instead to look more like Ryoko Hirosue, a Japanese actress and singer.
Osaka talks about her kotatsu, a heated table with a comforter on top of it, commonly used in Japan during winter season.
