  • In the last chapter, it was announced that the class were going on a field trip. In this chapter, they do.
  • It was explained before that Tomo and Osaka had never been on an airplane, but that Chiyo and Yomi had. This is referenced here too.
  • Yomi says that her diet is temporarily off when she sees the buffet at the hotel.
  • Kagura knows that cats often bite Sakaki, which she talks about here.
  • Again, Tomo obsesses over splitting a watermelon.
  • Osaka throws sea cucumbers at Yomi, mostly for fun, but possibly also so she can get back at her for causing her to start hiccupping earlier.

Cultural References

  • Tomo's cell phone rings.
  • Tomo buys souvenirs at the airport.
  • Osaka and Chiyo look at shisas. These are Okinawan mythological creatures, resembling something between lions and dogs. They ares supposed to keep evil away and are frequently seen in the form of statues, like here. They are frequently seen in pairs, one with its mouth open to send away evil spirits and one with its mouth closed to keep in the good spirits.
  • Chiyo and Sakaki look at small shisa figurines, and talk about cute wildcat souvenirs.

Unanswered Questions

  • When Sakaki went on an airplane before.
  • Exactly what kind of airport souvenirs Tomo bought.
  • When Chiyo dove for the first time.
  • How Chiyo was rescued from Tomo and Yukari, who pretended to try and throw her off a cliff.
  • What kinds of fish Sakaki wanted to see.
  • What happened to Chiyo after Tomo made her drown in a scrunched fish food sausage.
  • Where Osaka and Chiyo got their saataa andagii from.
  • If Chiyo and Sakaki got to buy any wildcat souvenirs.

Memorable Moments

  • The girls' arrival at Okinawa.
  • Osaka's fixation with funny-sounding words.
  • When the group go diving.
  • Tomo is very amused by souvenirs such as chinsukou and Ukon tea because "chinsukou" sounds similar to the Japanese word for penis (chinko) and Ukon resembles the word "unko" (poop).
  • In this chapter is the single occurence of Osaka saying the word "Yamapikarya" (wildcat) right, later she keeps pronouncing it "Pikanya" (because of "nya" or "nyan" being the Japanese word for "meow").
  • The most prominent event in this chapter is probably Sakaki's meeting with Maya, an Iriomote cat and the first feline she has tried to pet without it biting her. She even gets to hug him and take him with her for a while. This is one of the few chapters where Sakaki shows a lot of emotion – when she's with Maya, she seems happier than ever before, and when she has to say goodbye to him, she cries.
