It's Nice / Tricked / Kurosawa-sensei / Attempted / It's Not Over Yet (Japanese: 「ナイスですよ」 「だまされた」 「黒沢先生」 「未遂」 「まだ終わってない」) is the twenty second episode of Azumanga Daioh.
As summer break has started, Tomo proposed that the girls should take a trip to Chiyo's summer house with the intent to study for the entrance exams. Kaorin will be able to accompany them this time. With nine people total, they must split up between Nyamo's new car and Yukari's old car. Kaorin is initially frightened to board it, but nervously decides otherwise after Sakaki volunteers to go with Yukari. Tomo is focused on just going to the beach rather than on studying for the entrance exams. The girls begin to study in the evening. Tomo is frustrated that her plan was dashed, while Osaka is doltish for not understanding simple questions. It is unveiled that Nyamo cannot answer a question in mathematics, prompting Yukari to show her up just by making a speech in English. The next morning, Kaorin tries to take pictures of Sakaki, but Tomo jumps in front of her camera every time. Osaka, who is half-asleep, desires to wake Yukari up by banging at a frying pan. However, when she heads into Yukari's room, she holds a knife in her hand, which scares the teacher out of her mind. As the summer break concludes, Tomo comes to class in a highly delusional state, convincing Osaka to soon join her. Chiyo tries desperately to get them motivated, to no avail, until Kagura knocks both of them senseless to get them motivated, accidentally including Chiyo. Yukari later comes to class much in the same state, causing Chiyo to react accordingly.
Kaorin tells Sakaki that she hopes they'll get along even though she doesn't think herself to be "worthy". The way she phrases it is most often used when a bride marries into her husband's family.
When the girls are riding in their teachers' cars, the number 40 is seen written directly on the street. This stands for 40 km/hr.
Chiyo does radio exercises and Nyamo wonders if this makes her seem like a child or an old person. This is because radio exercises in Japan are usually aimed at these two age groups. Nyamo makes a stamp book for every morning Chiyo does this with cute bunny stamps that convince Sakaki to join in as well.
Kaorin uses a camera, because she wants to take photos of Sakaki (though Tomo deliberately jumps in the way). The camera's brand is "Nihon" which means "Japan" in Japanese but is obviously also a reference to the real-life camera brand Nikon.
When she gets back to school, Osaka talks about chestnut rice (rice cooked with some seasoning and pieces of chestnuts) and broiled saury. These are seasonal foods associated with autumn in Japan.
Tomo keeps repeating the words "Today is a summer service day" when she gets back to school after summer break. In Japan, a summer service day is a day in the middle of the summer break when the students go to school temporarily (there can be a couple of these over the course of the holiday) and do preliminary planning. After this, they continue the break. Tomo tries to convince herself, and Osaka, that it is a summer service day rather than an actual school day because she wishes that the holiday could continue.
In the next episode preview, Osaka discusses which scene they should be keeping their eyes and ears on. In Japanese, the word for "highlight" is "medama", which can also mean "eyeball". Thus, she asks "What's this year's highlight?" But since Osaka loves puns, she takes the literal meaning, "What this year's eyeball?" and goes to ask "What's this year's ear, mouth, and nose?"
From where Yukari got her swim ring that she takes out in the middle of class.
What Osaka meant when she said Yukari and her passengers were flying.
What problem Kaorin asked Sakaki about.
If Nyamo was good at math in school like she says.
Also, how it went for Kaorin when she fell down in an attempt to take a photo of Sakaki.
Tomo lies about wanting to go to Chiyo's summer home to study. When she is questioned about it once they arrive, Tomo confesses without hesitation.
When Kaorin joins the main cast for their trip, the Yukarimobile has to be used once more and she ends up riding in it, despite her getting carsick easily (only because Sakaki said she would) along with Tomo.
Kagura asks Nyamo for help with her math homework, but the latter is embarrassed when she can't figure the problem out. This gives Yukari a chance to make herself look smarter by giving a speech in English, which at least impresses The Knuckleheads.
Osaka wants to wake up Yukari with a frying pan, but since she is half-asleep, she takes a knife from the kitchen instead which deeply scares Yukari. Judging from the following dialogue, she even throws the knife at Chiyo-chan by mistake.
Chiyo's hopeless efforts to motivate Tomo, Osaka, and even Yukari once the new semester starts.
You know, with that you could go to the pool wearin' nothing and no one would even notice that something was missing!
